Art Review and Preview volume 2 #2, Fall 2008
DissentObjectProtest

SUMMARY
‘Protest’ is stigmatized as an ineffectual cliché. Taking to the streets with a banner and a fist in the air against the Powers That Be is so 1968/Seattle/G8. In reality, protest takes many forms, recent popular options being: buycotts, shopping locally, voting for Mickey Mouse, turning your lights off, driving below the speed limit, etc. Progenitors of protest are notoriously creative, and we seek writings that think beyond Adbusters and fuel-efficient cars.

As much as anything acknowledging the Republican National Convention could (or will) legitimize it in some way, ARP! thought this fall an appropriate time to publish Vol. 2, #2: DissentObjectProtest.

We welcome you to use this press, while it is still in our hands, to write about the inspired, productive and imaginative ways people have found to express their dissent. Object to the whatever and protest the something-archy.

We welcome submissions of 500-700 words related to the above and sometimes, but not necessarily, to art. Proposals are optional but encouraged to help us balance the issue’s content.

We welcome articles from 500-1500 words on a wide variety of topics, sometimes – but not necessarily – related to art. Proposals are optional though highly encouraged to help us balance the issue’s content. Need an idea? Ask us for a topic!

Suggested proposals deadline: July 1
Final Draft due: July 25
Release Date: August 26
